ROOSTERS</b> I always smile when I see a rooster and think about the noisy neighbor that I had when I lived in France! The rooster is not only an iconic emblem of France but is also their national symbol! You'll find them throughout my home, including this DIY <a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2013/08/french-ticking-pillow-with-vintage.html" target="_blank"><b>French ticking pillow.</b></a> It sports a vintage Camembert label starring another very noisy fellow!</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxeuofSDp7y9ksqPaGtM2XtpG5wXEuttRBeOePSvfbiWEWWTuaJsFRMTIGQuuEBnHgVA1Xha4B0XctJiTbtR2lSkG88Uu8JPI1_tPx6n-uPVKCPXlFC44Dzx2Z4eBVZ8Si3Zr-bKSt3c8/s1600/CONFESSIONS+OF+A+PLATE+ADDICT+5+Ways+to+Bring+Provence+into+Your+Home9.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="484" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxeuofSDp7y9ksqPaGtM2XtpG5wXEuttRBeOePSvfbiWEWWTuaJsFRMTIGQuuEBnHgVA1Xha4B0XctJiTbtR2lSkG88Uu8JPI1_tPx6n-uPVKCPXlFC44Dzx2Z4eBVZ8Si3Zr-bKSt3c8/s640/CONFESSIONS+OF+A+PLATE+ADDICT+5+Ways+to+Bring+Provence+into+Your+Home9.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">But perhaps my favorite is the one on this wonderful<b> <a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2013/07/summer-showcase-of-homesconfessions-of.html" target="_blank">rooster chandelier</a></b> in the breakfast room<b>. </b>I love the rough texture and the country charm!</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC3q4l16rwjQHYFRy6aPDgKgPmOnzifE7sJsrYFTHkRKcLp_doTh_wX-Q9BZ_s5bZmBZRdmhD7BR1UnNIGvGFclzIHmDWfltmuA224O-YR7-2FYQVdXpN0rYsk4NCT2EK-1q6KQKOeH9M/s1600/sheep_thumb_thumb5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC3q4l16rwjQHYFRy6aPDgKgPmOnzifE7sJsrYFTHkRKcLp_doTh_wX-Q9BZ_s5bZmBZRdmhD7BR1UnNIGvGFclzIHmDWfltmuA224O-YR7-2FYQVdXpN0rYsk4NCT2EK-1q6KQKOeH9M/s1600/sheep_thumb_thumb5.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>2. SHEEP</b> A simple pastoral landscape dotted with grazing sheep is a gentle reminder of another Provençal favorite of mine. I keep <a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2012/08/faudree-inspired-living-room-redo.html" target="_blank"><b>this one</b></a> on my mantel most of the year...</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifuW0Vs5arm7WuOkHcU06aJmAelULgnI7Xn6JMF0VwYOU2j34Z6h1NG929WO43aZ61QvvQ6fcD3gUlQaFoP-_g_yl1gcv0kPoLENzlW3obcK9meevmTpvB1nPKXz-vcD3ekYxtYPeZZYE/s1600/CONFESSIONS+OF+A+PLATE+ADDICT+Vintage+French+Sheep+Pillow.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifuW0Vs5arm7WuOkHcU06aJmAelULgnI7Xn6JMF0VwYOU2j34Z6h1NG929WO43aZ61QvvQ6fcD3gUlQaFoP-_g_yl1gcv0kPoLENzlW3obcK9meevmTpvB1nPKXz-vcD3ekYxtYPeZZYE/s1600/CONFESSIONS+OF+A+PLATE+ADDICT+Vintage+French+Sheep+Pillow.JPG" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">...and this one graces my DIY <a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2011/08/french-sheep-pillow-tutorial.html" target="_blank"><b>vintage French sheep pillow.</b></a> It's always tucked into my grandmother's old arm chair.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBI_-yPKnSwjFfbTdv5y4gqowxhtq2T9aiquqKIthcrq1d4qjJzjetp-feahlKjBfKao6wQYZN89abEjwUKwv5GEUncfd6dzLmCSzoX_LFB-srCpIB3w7dN-JjPBKYBL2c7_kz4qz2-yI/s1600/CONFESSIONS+OF+A+PLATE+ADDICT+5+Ways+to+Bring+Provence+into+Your+Home8.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBI_-yPKnSwjFfbTdv5y4gqowxhtq2T9aiquqKIthcrq1d4qjJzjetp-feahlKjBfKao6wQYZN89abEjwUKwv5GEUncfd6dzLmCSzoX_LFB-srCpIB3w7dN-JjPBKYBL2c7_kz4qz2-yI/s1600/CONFESSIONS+OF+A+PLATE+ADDICT+5+Ways+to+Bring+Provence+into+Your+Home8.JPG" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>3. LAVENDER</b> Of course, we cannot talk about Provence without mentioning lavender! It grows abundantly in that warm, sunny climate and is a must-buy in some form for every visitor. I used it in this easy-to-make <a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2011/01/tutorial-easy-and-inexpensive-faux.html" target="_blank"><b>lavender wreath</b></a>...</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZaK7B9Sp2HtF1murUlhSGtLPuUkkjq628Sv3Frl7BczQXsvMznIZotNRFEOMSTAMk1nflhpqHdz4bd4saJ3DYSQPzqOmV5_fwCRH8WtXUX0geP7RuROH-bbNe9V9Jaz-KXIn_hx2NGyI/s1600/CONFESSIONS+OF+A+PLATE+ADDICT+Lavender+Goat%2527s+Milk+Soap2_thumb%255B8%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZaK7B9Sp2HtF1murUlhSGtLPuUkkjq628Sv3Frl7BczQXsvMznIZotNRFEOMSTAMk1nflhpqHdz4bd4saJ3DYSQPzqOmV5_fwCRH8WtXUX0geP7RuROH-bbNe9V9Jaz-KXIn_hx2NGyI/s1600/CONFESSIONS+OF+A+PLATE+ADDICT+Lavender+Goat%2527s+Milk+Soap2_thumb%255B8%255D.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">...and this fun and super-easy<b> <a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2015/01/easy-lavender-goats-milk-soap.html" target="_blank">homemade lavender goats milk soap</a></b>. SUNFLOWERS</b> A visit to Provence should certainly include a long look at a field of glorious sunflowers! I love seeing what my very talented fellow francophiles have to show us each month! This time the topic is our choice so I chose one of my favorite ways to feel as though I've had a little trip to France…<b>adding</b> <b>the wonderful scent of French lavender to your home! </b><br /><b></b><br /><a name="more"></a><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2s84bpqB2QR-vVeMvv-hWgPgLc3N0RSfKdFBesa8S4ZL4DsbOWmNgwVweniJeUffCMt67HhUncaak4OfDGsE9Dab98NRIDFKcK1g_7upjh7M85x_jeXldWrKbwNAmSKARFB6jq3-5jhln/s1600-h/CONFESSIONSOFAPLATEADDICTLavenderSac%25255B2%25255D%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Lavender Sachet" border="0" height="771" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji32oWyYx8jTnvT2RnZB-PVE8uQP6G2Tx7uzbiLyK6cxzHFW4Nb6DLj0QVIReE8pzdj8XeUnVGjZ5r-VdowzkjCq_Fva_Rh2ni2YFcYO7MVBQ1YbHN48X0EjRWVnzq84W1uh_1FW46YPYc/?imgmax=800" style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Lavender Sachet" width="579" /></a>Perhaps my favorite is<b> </b><a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2011/09/annie-sloans-creating-french-looka.html" target="_blank"><b>lavender sachets</b></a>…a little bit of your favorite fabric stitched into a shape that you love and filled with lavender! It’s so nice just to slip one into your lingerie drawer and then, each time you open it, you are taken to the lavender fields of Provence! Mine is made of French ticking and toile…a combination that I love. You can get another look at it, plus some details on Annie Sloan’s take on types of Country French interiors<b> <a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2011/09/annie-sloans-creating-french-looka.html" target="_blank"><b>here</b>.</a></b><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1PEvkwMQeASLGffW0VJqhzXW0Znhzvv7SNYe0TGs1dUja-qxEVe8q88x7noElx3KomugmeMHIdA6iTV5HxgEFQvpU-lNF_Oyizw2p8OvvoroLGUliFzeixud_gxPdD1Qxzf2lfct4Mr1s/s1600-h/CONFESSIONSOFAPLATEADDICTLemonandLav%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img alt="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Lemon and Lavender Simmering Potpourri" border="0" height="608" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9LmPM7JF0G1L7raEhCf7PkOEIqdIJYgoAHmGRs-vPPaT7nQIyjZGqutq2VWAnaGjgsA0dvInLh3_gkCkX0CPf654mH4h4gBbUZ-hoSqmkD9_PnLsoqYlmm4QIP4SnNt2jKF3rN7Brjlwj/?imgmax=800" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Lemon and Lavender Simmering Potpourri" width="605" /></a>Another way to add the scent of French lavender is<b> </b><a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2014/01/homemade-lemon-and-lavender-simmering.html" target="_blank"><b>simmering potpourri</b></a>…a combination of herbs and favorite essential oils that is warmed on the stovetop to release that wonderful fragrance in your entire home! One of my favorites is<b> </b><a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2014/01/homemade-lemon-and-lavender-simmering.html" target="_blank"><b>lemon and lavender</b></a><b> </b>…such a nice way to freshen up your home, especially during the winter months!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7H8dCDp4KjD5t1UoAmP15-OzBzdQ2Ftb4Le96Yy71i73jTKohHTDzKhEef2AnVotwsxNyORmkRk8kWsArfCxX4QzU-IZzV8C2byeEEHXgbkQpFOnkujbxsLhLJ6J8U_2M50yFGIHlU0Um/s1600-h/IMG_5317_thumb165.jpg"><img alt="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy and Inexpensive Faux Lavender Wreath" border="0" height="772" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH73lqwi_2xg2Adcra_JSXy03-lAWuWv27Oq7vOzcQvZF7BETSACESBx5USztVoFfhDwnsl5cfceulR6UbiPSmDr_KQ_YVeEEpQhZ_4u9G7WIZoGJqQRIUpEiB7cyyvh18cXkNrZ9pLiNr/?imgmax=800" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy and Inexpensive Faux Lavender Wreath" width="580" /></a>I also love the look of lavender, but it can be fragile and does not always lend itself to being used in some types of décor. <i>Sooo</i>…I created a <a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2011/01/tutorial-easy-and-inexpensive-faux.html" target="_blank"><b>faux lavender wreath</b></a> so that I could have the look without the mess of the little buds dropping off. Here’s a fun way to display live lavender…my <a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2012/04/easy-vintage-french-planter-box.html" target="_blank"><b>vintage French planter box</b></a>! It’s so easy and you will not believe what it’s made from! You will find the tutorial, including the graphic, <a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2012/04/easy-vintage-french-planter-box.html" target="_blank"><b>here</b></a>.<br /><br /><img alt="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Lavender Goats Milk Soap" border="0" height="603" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm8wJBPwXXGMNXXnhmLhOkLHHZPiIxE-hQX1hqnbgy4Q_ytAKNSIgDtEse8RNQvV19jDyO0gKgLUQGeIJmRDlcSYkuWv7QfAUr5aJVfIH0myU0MTu6fVongAZUCgzMoYAND-IR_S_1G2Dn/?imgmax=800" style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Lavender Goats Milk Soap" width="605" />And finally, here’s a way to use lavender that is also very practical…handmade<b> </b><a href="http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/2015/01/easy-lavender-goats-milk-soap.html" target="_blank"><b>lavender goats milk soap</b></a>! If I had any idea how easy and inexpensive it is, I would have been making my own a long time ago! If you love lavender soap like me, but hesitate to buy it often because of the high cost, then this is for you. I made some little soaps in a pretty heart-shaped tartlet tin to give as sweet little gifts…<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZkJ0Tixw0PxLhhUHEpqwiOu_zMm5CLZdAFaSeMKXL-MLdUPg8u-wetpwtaj_af-RNxeuSXhVOYUJqg50UbtdBYjxswOev-Tefx3mdTIHyS9RxAG1jUmPkK1qVHA0UmRGsSDAU9uotNA2z/s1600-h/CONFESSIONSOFAPLATEADDICTLavenderGoa%25255B1%25255D.jpg"><img alt="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Lavender Goat's Milk Soap" border="0" height="771" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1AdK9OLgbOqOyMqdN-htwFEXOrMgujonf2PouZGe4dutPoiK0I5Y6ND0oZ-dyZZZYUkhyFenWO6gdqkQwl3MRCihPJfcofqY7nD6xLtHRZ_qLcKw45x7K4w1uhwJZFecYMFTcEi9WMax5/?imgmax=800" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Lavender Goat's Milk Soap" width="579" /></a>…but I have to admit that I made simple bars of the lavender soap just for me! Ticking and Toile Star Anise Wreath

I love the look and smell of star anise and thought that the little star shapes might add some interest and texture to a mini wreath…plus make the house smell wonderful! I was afraid that finding enough of it at a reasonable price would be a problem…<br /><br /><a name="more"></a><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicy6HBxppxUXXEXk8pOLoRs64KyY-vRCH6DUex7X0VVIldojjEmN1_PsoNx13UHSnEzj-X2ryw3uUxDna2LDjuXcCY8BDFUowXQ9rbQdNHskgrlqB1RpD8aQFRusUs_3X4QfwH99oV2nKp/s1600-h/CONFESSIONS%252520OF%252520A%252520PLATE%252520ADDICT%252520Ticking%252520%252526%252520Toile%252520Star%252520Anise%252520Wreath%252520tutorial%25255B16%25255D.jpg"><img alt="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Ticking and Toile Star Anise Wreath tutorial" border="0" height="606" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1Laj1Yf1DncMoful8rslwASfC6Rv0JjJl1l72mHy42G3rBM1ZYgmMflSumMzgZnYCVek7BwakxDFMimHAQe2e3E-VpY2AAcAMzK0ehY1pjuyU8Dzm4_SzFC76f4ak2Ks2NN9JKvYcBEDG/?imgmax=800" style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Ticking and Toile Star Anise Wreath tutorial" width="606" /></a> …but I was thrilled to discover packets of whole star anise on sale at World Market for only<b> $1.39</b> per packet, so I bought <i>four</i> just to be sure to have enough. And then, my little wheels started turning.<br /><b>Here is what you will need:</b><br /><ul><li>Raffia-covered wire, preferably in brown (I found mine at Michaels)</li><li>Approximately 30 whole star anise (Not familiar with <i><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illicium_verum" target="_blank">star anise?</a></i>  Although not related, it has a scent similar to<i> </i>anise, fennel and licorice.)  </li><li>Hot glue gun</li><li>Fabric hearts and ribbon (or other embellishments you choose)</li><li>Jute twine</li></ul><b>And here’s what you will do:</b><br /><ol><li>Shape the raffia-covered wire into an 8 inch circle, twisting the ends together.</li><li>Hot glue the star anise to the wire, one at a time. I found that it worked best to place a drop of glue on the back of the star anise and then hold it in place<i> gently</i> until it had time to set.<i> </i>The front part of the star anise is easily recognized since it usually has seeds.<i>  Note: You cannot put a lot of pressure on it or it will break! </i></li><li>Continue until the entire wreath is covered.</li></ol><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8z8eDFjnMESGoz55IDvsyaSmid2dVcHjSqDc3OpwJofj0JXnc3SVpM5AbuyRIg_oLl2RHGSWasjcKscHtyJR5NR9XSvv5AosLz6VF0OQmceNjUocmn8G367lyXgtwHLL6zbkb13Yw2qH9/s1600-h/CONFESSIONS%252520OF%252520A%252520PLATE%252520ADDICT%252520Ticking%252520%252526%252520Toile%252520Star%252520Anise%252520Wreath2%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img alt="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Ticking and Toile Star Anise Wreath" border="0" height="771" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs6df6ALe3Y1e2Te1iBczjP8K3LP3_kck2bCn3J1_Q8jZXYRtYWHo7gYQMDnceHo4JB-FWoqfu30OcAKaFY0iWd7VJEBuVPVMo8YalU7pb44KU5KwMuMPySxJ7xonDnwDUC22bUE_At5jh/?imgmax=800" style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Ticking and Toile Star Anise Wreath" width="579" /></a> I added handmade hearts by hot-gluing them to a length of jute twine and then tying them to the wreath and adding a bow to finish.
