I have actually been tossing this idea around in my mind for a while and postponing because I have been dreading getting out the chicken wire, tin snips and heavy gloves to create the form for the cornucopia…ouch! But then Miss Kitty said “Why in the world are you doing that when you could just use a wicker form?” Whaaaat? Genius! So I rushed out to Michael’s and there it was…70% off! Woo hoo! Thanks, Miss Kitty!
Here’s what you will need:
- A straw or wicker cornucopia form with the small feet removed and saved for later
- Burlap cut into strips (I finally found a way to use up most of my leftovers! Yaaay!)
- Hot glue gun
- Unravel one side of each of the burlap strips.
- Wrap the strips around the form, beginning at the small end. Wrap it so that the unraveled edge shows, hot gluing in spots to hold it in place.
- You will find that the shape does not allow you to wrap continuously. You will have to piece in a few shorter pieces from the bottom of the form. Always end and begin any strip on the bottom.
- Reattach the feet so that they hold the cornucopia straight
- And…taa daa! Here it is!
Then I decided that my cornucopia needed a little trial run on my practice Thanksgiving tablescape! (You do have a practice Thanksgiving tablescape, don’t you? lol) I added a little bit of faux bittersweet and filled it with seasonal gourds, little pumpkins, fall leaves and Indian corn. What do you think? I love the rustic texture of the burlap…just the look I was going for!
And here is something else that would be a great addition to your Thanksgiving buffet table...my no-sew basket liners! You will find a tutorial for them here that even includes the free utensil graphic!
And just in case you are in the mood for another one of my super-easy Thanksgiving projects, check out my Pottery Barn inspired monogrammed serving board…created from a thrift store cutting board for a song! You will find it by clicking here.
