CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Peeps Mason Jar CandlesI have a fun project for you just in time for Easter…my Peeps Mason jar candles! I have been thinking about this one for a while and debating what filler to use. Hmmm…jelly beans? Malted milk eggs? Nothing seemed quite right. Then I was walking through the grocery store today, pondering the problem in the Easter candy aisle (Don’t you just hate it when you have to spend time in the candy aisle? lol) when it hit me…bunny Peeps!

Ozzie I came home with my boxes of Peeps, all excited by my plan, but was virtually ignored by our beautiful CEO Miss Ozzie who was busy looking out the window. A flock (or is it a murder?) of crows had taken up housekeeping in the yard. Hmmm…it looks like I won’t be getting much help on this one!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Fall Mason Jar Candles But that’s OK…most of the work was already done! You may remember my Pottery Barn inspired fall Mason jar candles…so much fun to make! You can see how I created them, including how to add the wires, by checking out the tutorial here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT SuppliesI have even added a jar since then so now I have three! Did you know that several brands of spaghetti sauce come in these jars..so they are free! Yaaay! Here’s what I did:
  • First, I added a wax button (from the candle aisle at World Market) to the bottom of my Dollar Tree glass votive holders. Using tongs, I lowered them into the jars and pushed down hard with the tongs to help lock them in place in the center.
  • Next, I added six Peeps bunnies around the edges of the jar, between the wall of the jar and the votive holders. I had to use a table knife to push them into position. Just a hint…if you will use the six outer bunnies, you will have less of the white marshmallow showing when you separate them.
  • Finally, holding the candles by the wicks with the tongs, I lowered them inside the votive holders.

I think they are the perfect festive touch for the Easter season! The candles don't seem to be close enough to the Peeps to cause a problem, however you could use LED candles if you wish. As with any candles, use caution and do not leave them unattended.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Peeps Mason Jar Candles My little grandsons will enjoy seeing these…and I even have some Peeps leftover for me…errr…them to eat! Now I am almost ready for Easter! What about you?
