No-Sew Burlap Bunny Ear Silverware Pocket

I am excited to join our monthly No-Sew Showcase for our spring edition! I'm sharing a fun idea for your spring tablescapes…and it’s not just for Easter…my no-sew burlap bunny ear silverware pocket! It’s super-easy and doesn’t require you to sew a stitch! I have to give credit for this one to my daughter who first spotted it in Swoozie’s spring catalog and said that it looked like something I should copy make!

Here’s what you will need:

• Pre-made burlap envelopes from Hobby Lobby (I found them on sale 50% off, but you can always use a coupon.)
• A scrap of burlap
• Heat n Bond or a similar product
• Jute twine
• Hot glue gun
• Scissors
• Print out of the ear pattern that follows
• Optional…small name tags

And here’s what you will do:
First, print the bunny ear pattern above. (Hint: Click on the pattern and it will come up in a new window. Then just hit print and it should be the right size.)

Now you are ready to create the “ears.”

1. Start by cutting a piece of burlap that will be just large enough for cutting your ears. If you are making multiple pockets, you will, of course, cut more ears. Then cut another piece of burlap and a piece of Heat n Bond the same size as the first piece of burlap. Follow the directions on the package and fuse the two pieces of burlap together.
2. Using the bunny ear pattern above, cut as many ears as you will need…two per pocket, of course. :-)
3. The burlap is now thicker and will hold its shape and resist raveling.

Now you are ready to add them to the pre-made envelope to create your pocket. I like to work over a piece of aluminum foil since burlap has such a loose weave and the glue can leak through.

1. Open up the envelope and add a bead of hot glue to the inner corners. Fold the flap over and tuck it inside, pressing it in place using a bamboo skewer so as not to get burned.
2. Add another bead of glue to one the inner corners of the pocket on top of the fold.
3. Add one of the ears and press down, again using a bamboo skewer so as not to get burned, and hold until the ear is securely in place. Repeat for the second ear.
4. Tie a length of jute twine around the pocket.

If you wish, you can add a name tag to the pocket and it will now serve as a place card as well! Love it! Wasn’t that super easy?
