It’s less than a month to Valentine’s Day so I am beginning to add a little bit of Valentine décor to my home. I try to make it relatively subtle and have it fit into my Country French style…not always an easy task! This year I challenged myself to reuse elements from previous years and yet come up with something different…and I think I accomplished that goal!

I started with a little Norfolk pine, nestled in burlap and sitting in one of my favorite tureens. I had used it in my Christmas décor and I love it so much that I wanted to keep it as the heart of the centerpiece. I just added a few sweater hearts…bargain after-Christmas finds at Hancock Fabrics from last year…to give it a Valentine-y touch.

Next, I added a few pieces from my favorite Wedgwood Queensware pattern…

…and topped them off with some handmade ticking and toile hearts tied with jute twine to add some texture and a rustic look.

One of my favorite bits of Valentine décor is my no-sew faux cross-stitch Valentine tea towel…made with a 79 cent IKEA tea towel and an iron-on transfer. I love the way it looks like cross-stitch but is so much easier! You will find the tutorial, including the free graphic, by clicking here. I also added some of my favorite grape-y vintage silverplate forks tied with twine for even more farmhouse style. It’s all corralled in a little basket tray…

…except for a few more handmade hearts, placed beside the basket on the burlap table square.

Baby Kitty says that the hearts are his favorite part since he helped to make them! What would I do without my helpful co-host?

And there you have it…not too fussy and the burlap, creamware and fabric hearts just add that farmhouse feel!

I corralled transferware, vintage silverplate flatware and those same handmade fabric hearts in my favorite chippy box for my rustic Valentine centerpiece. And as a bonus, I was unknowingly photographing during the Blue Hour for a spectacular effect in the window in the background!

I used my favorite vintage Red Cliff ironstone along with some pretty pink tulips to create my early spring almost-too-late-for Valentine’s Day centerpiece. You can see the same vintage flatware and plain IKEA tea towels in this one.

And here’s my Red Cliff tea pot again, filled with red tulips, along with vintage Wedgwood and sweater hearts. This time they are hanging from my bargain French bottle drying rack…a find at under $15 at World Market. You can get a closer look at it here.
