Start on the outside and measure to allow for the length of the outer edge of the liner (I wanted mine to be three inches). </li><li>Continue down into the inside… </li><li>across the bottom... </li><li>and up the inside of the other side... </li><li>and then end with the outer length on the other side. Take this measurement and <i>add one inch</i> to allow for finishing. </li><li>Then measure the width of that side and <i>add one inch</i> to that measurement.</li></ol><i>You now have the measurement for the first strip</i>. Mine was 26 inches long and 7 inches wide, including the extra inch added to each side. My baskets are relatively small.<i> If your basket is square, you are through measuring. Just cut two strips of the same size.</i><br />If you have a basket with different length sides, you will need to repeat the process on the opposite side. That was the case with mine. My second strip was 23 inches by 10 inches. Here’s what you will do:<br /><ol><li>Press in <i>one-half inch</i> on all four sides of each strip, overlapping at the corners. </li><li>Cut away a little diagonal piece at each corner so that the hem tape will be able to adhere to all sides. </li><li>Cut a piece of the iron-on hem tape and slide it under the fold of the fabric. Follow the directions on the package and press the tape into place. The tape will fuse the fold in place. </li><li>I found that I had to go back after I had finished and give the corners a little diagonal cut to make them look neater. </li><li>You now have two strips with finished edges. </li><li>Measure one half the length of the outer edge of the liner and place a little mark on the <i>inside </i>of the strip with a pencil. The outer edge of my liner is 3 inches, so I marked each side at 1 1/2 inches. </li><li>Place a dot of hot glue at each mark and add a length of jute twine which will serve as the tie. (Ten inches worked well for me). Use a bamboo skewer or toothpick to press the twine into place so that you don’t get burned.<i> Ouch!</i> </li><li>Finally, place one strip in the basket with the finished edge down and then layer the other strip across it diagonally.
