It’s so simple that you probably already have all of the ingredients!<br /><br /><a href="https://sites.google.com/site/confessionsofaplateaddict/homemade-christmas-simmering-potpourri?tmpl=%2Fsystem%2Fapp%2Ftemplates%2Fprint%2F&showPrintDialog=1"><b>Click here for a printable version of the recipe.</b></a><br />HOMEMADE CHRISTMAS SIMMERING POTPOURRI <br /><i>From Confessions of a Plate Addict</i><br /><ul><li>First bring a <b>quart of water</b> to a boil.  </li><li>Next add <b>half of an orange</b> cut into smaller sections (I usually squeeze the juice into the water and then add the peel). </li><li>Finally, add two <b>cinnamon sticks</b>, two <b>bay leaves</b> and 10-15 <b>whole cloves</b>. </li></ul>Let it boil for a few minutes, then turn it down to a simmer and leave it on the stove. In about 30 minutes, your whole house will smell wonderful! You can put it in the fridge and reuse it for several days. My grandson did an extra fabulous job of decorating them, too…<i>for your blog</i>, he told me! :-)<br /><br /><a href="https://sites.google.com/site/confessionsofaplateaddict/home/santa-s-favorite-homemade-sugar-cookies?tmpl=%2Fsystem%2Fapp%2Ftemplates%2Fprint%2F&showPrintDialog=1"><b>Click here for a printable version of the recipe.</b></a><br />SANTA’S FAVORITE HOMEMADE SUGAR COOKIES<br /><i>from Confessions of a Plate Addict</i><br />INGREDIENTS<br /><ul><li>3/4 cup butter flavored Crisco</li><li>1 cup sugar</li><li>2 eggs</li><li>1 teaspoon vanilla extract</li><li>2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour</li><li>1 teaspoon baking powder</li><li>1 teaspoon salt</li></ul><br />DIRECTIONS<br />Cream Crisco and sugar. <br />Add eggs and vanilla and mix well. <br />Gradually stir in flour, baking powder and salt. <br />Cover and chill at least one hour…preferably overnight. <br />Roll chilled dough 1/8 inch thick on floured wax paper. <br />Cut with cookie cutters and place on ungreased cookie sheet. (I use parchment paper.) Sprinkle with colored sugar if desired. <br />Bake at 350 degrees for 6 to 10 minutes. And…there is really very little out there that can be used as a substitute. But then my clever co-host Baby Kitty came up with an idea…<b>why not make your own?</b> <i>Whaaat?</i> Genius! In looking around, I decided that Osnaburg fabric would be my best choice for starters. It has the natural, nubby look of linen but is super cheap and very user friendly. You don’t have to be exact. Then fill in between the tape with the fabric marker. You can add as many stripes of whatever size you wish, but I chose three. </li><li>Be sure the stripes have had time to dry (my marker was the kind that needs a little time) and remove the tape.</li><li>Fold the fabric so that you have enough on the underside to serve as the backs of the ornaments. I chose to have plain backs for mine. Print the patterns you plan to use (I found mine <i><a href="http://www.dotcomwomen.com/crafts/christmas-crafts-felt-ornaments/4230/">here</a></i> ) then position them along the stripes, pin and cut them out</li><li>Sew around the edges with a zig-zag stitch, leaving one portion open.
