As soon as I saw Pottery Barn’s Fa La La La pillow cover, I knew it would be one of my projects this Christmas! Who doesn’t love to Deck the Halls? And this one requires very little in the way of supplies and comes in for waaaay less than their $29.50! In fact, I spent a total of $3.00 for this one since I already had most of the supplies on the super-short list. All I had to buy was the pre-made pillow cover!
Here’s what you will need:
- Purchased pillow cover (Mine came from Hobby Lobby at a cost of $3.00 with a coupon. I used an 18 inch square rather than a lumbar pillow.)
- Red fabric marker (Be sure to use a fabric marker…regular markers or Sharpies will bleed.)
- Pillow insert (Mine is a down insert that came from Goodwill.)
- Wax paper
Press the cover to remove any wrinkles. Insert a sheet of wax paper inside the pillow cover to prevent the text from showing through on the back. Then simply write the phrase Falalalala Lalalala on the front of the pillow cover, alternating beginning each line with first one word, then the other and letting the line end with partial words if need be. You might try practicing on a sheet of paper first to find the size that you want. My lettering is about 2 inches tall for the initial F and L and about an inch for the a’s. Work until you have covered the entire pillow front. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s supposed to be handwriting, after all!
NOTE: If you are not comfortable with your handwriting, try printing the phrase in a font and size that you like to be used as a guide. If your fabric is thin enough, you can pin the phrase on the underside of just the front and trace over it with a pencil, moving the text as you go until the pillow has been filled. Then write over it with the fabric marker.
Finally, pop in the insert and…
…taaa daaa! Here it is! It couldn’t be any simpler than that! I love the look of the script! It adds a festive but subtle touch to my Christmas décor!
Want more Pottery Barn knock-offs? Here’s my Pottery Barn inspired jingle pillow…my favorite from last Christmas…and it’s in the stores again this year!
And here’s another super easy no-sew pillow…my Ballard inspired Joyeux Noël pillow! The graphic for the iron-on transfer is included in the tutorial.
Baby Kitty says this one is his favorite! He likes the fact that the text is in French…and I do, too! And stay tuned...there's more Christmas inspiration in the works!
