French Ticking Tea Towels...from a Pillowcase

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Ticking Tea Towels from a PillowcaseI’m excited because it’s time for the monthly share from our Country French design group…and I have a fun idea that has been cooking in my brain for a while…tea towels made from a pillowcase! I love French ticking and I love generous ruffles so I had planned to create a tea towel combining them both when it hit me…I am describing the pillowcases from my toile guest bedroom!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT My Toile Guest Bedroom See them…peeking out from the black toile pillows? Well…I had come across an extra pair of them while thrifting and had snatched them up for just in case I ever needed them. And now…I have a way to use them! And…even better…they are the perfect size!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Ticking Tea Towels from a Pillowcase Here’s what you will need:
  • One standard size pillowcase, preferably made of cotton for better absorbency
  • Scraps of dropcloth cut into squares
  • Print-outs of the images below on iron-on transfer paper (I use Avery brand transfer paper for light images.)
And here’s what you will do:
  1. Cut the pillowcase along the seams and the long side to create two pieces. Just cut to separate the front from the back and you will have two pieces approximately 20" x 30" depending on your pillowcase. So...each pillow case makes two tea towels.
  2. Trim any portion of the seam that remains.
  3. Fold in 1/2 inch and press the two sides and the top of the fabric then fold and press again to create a finished edge.
  4. Stitch the pressed edges.
  5. Print the images below on transfer paper and apply them to the dropcloth squares following the directions on the package. I find that I generally need to add a little more time and press very hard.
  6. Stitch the dropcloth squares to the tea towels.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Garden Cloche reversed
I love images from Karen at The Graphics Fairy since they really lend themselves to my vintage-look frenchy projects. I usually add a little something in French ‘cause the French teacher in me never dies! lol I especially like this one…a vintage cloche…since this is the way the French actually use a cloche…in the garden to protect tender plants.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Vintage Watering Can reversed I also love this one from The Graphics Fairya vintage watering can…since I have a thing about anything that is galvanized. The images have already been reversed for you so that they can be ironed on.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Ticking Tea Towels from a Pillowcase I like to leave the edge unfinished to add more of a rustic feel. It will not ravel far since the edges of the square are stitched about 1/2 inch in.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Ticking Tea Towels from a Pillowcase And here they are! Can you believe how easy that was? No gathering and stitching plus adding trim since it was already there! And…wouldn’t this be a great way to create pretty little hand towels? Just cut up (gulp..if you dare!) a vintage pillow case with lace trim and…voilà!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Ticking Tea Towels from a Pillowcase I’ve added them to my latest centerpiece for a little frenchy, vintage-y touch. I love the way the ticking looks with sunflowers…two of my favorites together!

BK Baby Kitty says he doesn’t understand the need for towels when his tongue works so well and is always handy! But just in case, he offers a few more ideas…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Vintage French Tea Towels…such as my  VINTAGE FRENCH TEA TOWELS …some of my favorites!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Wisteria Inspired Linen Hand TowelsAnd for a really generous ruffle, how about these  WISTERIA INSPIRED LINEN HAND TOWELS. They make very pretty napkins, too!

COUNTRY-FRENCH-DESIGN-small And be sure to check out what my fellow francophiles are sharing…always some beautiful ideas with a Country French touch!

Please Join Me for The Scoop #176

Hi everyone! I am excited because it's my turn to host this week and I have some wonderful ideas to share from you, our guests! Here...I have been working on getting ready for the 4th of July with my COUNTRY LIVING INSPIRED FIRECRACKER FAVORS...so much fun to make! Can you believe it's almost here? And now...I want to see what you have to show us, so let's get this party started!

Welcome back to The Scoop!
The weekly party featuring the scoop on the best from around the web!

We are
Yvonne from StoneGable
and Suzy from Worthing Court

Our host this week is

Debbie at Confessions of a Plate Addict
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for joining us at The Scoop! We are excited to have you as our guests and always look forward to seeing what you have to share with us each week!

I've been busy getting my home ready to celebrate the 4th of July. Have you realized that it's less than two weeks away? Sooo....I have some super-easy and fun ways for you to add a little red, white and blue...like my BURLAP STARS AND STRIPES WREATH! You can't get any easier than this because you just tie it!

And another fun and different way to add some stars and stripes in unexpected places is my PATRIOTIC RAG BALL FILLER. It's simple and inexpensive to make, too. Just display them in a dough bowl or stack them in a lantern or large vase...instant centerpiece!

There are always so many wonderful ideas that it's hard to choose, but here are just a few that caught my eye last week!

KariAnne at Thistlewood Farms shared her unique FAUX PAINTED FLOOR RUNNER. What a great idea!

Deb at Seeking Lavender Lane showed us how to make her pretty DIY WICKER WREATH PLANT HOLDER. Genius!

These WATERMELON GANACHE DOUGHNUTS from Heather at Woods of Bell Trees made me want to try food airbrushing paints...almost too pretty to eat!

Mary at Home Is Where the Boat Is shared her PATRIOTIC PORCH plus lots of other ways to show off your stars and stripes!

And finally, Cristina at Remodelando la Casa took us on a SUMMER HOME TOUR and shared lots of wonderful ideas for adding coastal touches.

Now...I can't wait to see what you have to share, so let's get on with the party!
