Please Join Me for The Scoop #164

Hi everyone! It's time for another edition of The Scoop and I am excited because it's my turn to host! We are so happy that you are joining us, either to share your wonderful ideas or to be inspired. After all, it wouldn't be a party without our guests! Sooo...let's get this party started!

Welcome back to The Scoop!

We are
Yvonne from StoneGable
and Suzy from Worthing Court

Our host this week is...

Debbie from Confessions of a Plate Addict

Hi everyone and thanks so much for joining us today! I am loving seeing all of the wonderful spring projects that you have been sharing. Spring has indeed arrived in the South and I am so happy to see it at last!

So to celebrate its arrival, I have created some fun PAPER MACHE BIRD'S NESTS. They are so easy to make and you will not believe what they are made from...so inexpensive! Brown paper bags!!!  Yep, you read that right! Even the kids could get in on this project!

And I am also excited because it's time for the monthly share from our Country French design group! This time the subject is our choice so I am sharing some tips on DECORATING WITH VINTAGE FRENCH IMAGES. And you can do it without spending a lot of money! I hope you'll head over and check it out!

And now...here are just a few of your wonderful projects that caught my eye last week!

Doreen at Hymns and Verses shared her pretty Spring Cottage Style Buffet...lovely!

Mary at Orphans with Makeup showed us a new-to-me technique that she used to create this beautiful Embossing Plaster Dresser...so unusual!

If you love Beatrix Potter as much as I do, you will love Peter Rabbit's Carrot Zucchini Muffins from Mary at Home Is Where the Boat Is! And you've got to love the cute way they are displayed, too

Wouldn't these Bird's Nest Napkin Rings add the perfect spring touch to your table? They were shared by Bonnie at Uncommon Designs.

Isn't this a cute idea for a spring wreath? Barbara at 21 Rosemary Lane used her daughter's much-loved childhood boots to create her Spring Rain Boot Wreath, making it even more special!

And now, I can't wait to see what yo have to share, so let's get this party started!

Thank you for linking up, friends!

    Decorating with Vintage French Images

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Decorating with Vintage French ImagesI am so excited because it’s time for our Country French design group's monthly share! I love seeing what my very talented fellow francophiles have to show us each month! This time the topic is our choice so I chose one of my favorite ways to add some frenchiness to your décor without spending a lot of money… decorating with vintage French images. I will show you five different ways to use images and I will even provide them for you!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Vintage-Look French Tea Towels#1. LINENS
The first way, and probably my favorite, is to use the images to create vintage-look French linens like my no-sew vintage French monogrammed tea towels. Can you believe that these are actually inexpensive IKEA dish cloths that have been transformed with a realistic-looking iron-on transfer?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Numbered NapkinsThe same process was used to transform simple plain white dinner napkins into these French farmhouse numbered napkins. What a fun and easy way to add some frenchiness to your table!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Vintage Eiffel Tower Pillow#2. PILLOWS
If you know me, you know how I love to create my own pillows! And my linen and burlap vintage Eiffel Tower pillow  has that rustic French look that I love!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Ballard Inspired French Bunny PillowHere's a pillow that is perfect for spring and Easter...my Ballard inspired French bunny pillow! It has a little modern edge, too, even though it was created from a vintage bunny print.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Ticking Pillow with Vintage French Cheese LabelThis is one of my favorites...my vintage French ticking pillow...made with the image of a vintage French Camembert label!

I loved it so much that I made another French ticking pillow to go with it and placed them on the bed in my frenchy guest bedroom! You can get a closer look at it here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Aged Paper Candle Wraps#3. CANDLES
Here's another fun way to bring some French touches to your décor without spending a lot of money...adding vintage images as candle covers! My frenchy aged paper candle wraps  are created using an easy process that gives an authentic-looking vintage touch to your candles!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Parisian Architecture {Aged Paper} Candle Wraps These Parisian architecture aged paper candle wraps use images of Paris landmarks from the 1600s on aged paper for an authentic look!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Vintage French Sheet Music CandlesYou can also use candle wraps with simple glass jars to add a rustic Country French look. These vintage French sheet music candles can be tweaked to fit any season.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Eiffel Tower Book Bundle#4. BOOK COVERS
And don’t forget books! Book covers allow you to turn thrift store books into Country French décor! My vintage Eiffel Tower book bundle spreads an image across several spines for a fun and interesting twist!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Fun with Vintage Paris MapsAnother fun and very versatile image…vintage maps of Paris! They can be used as book and candle covers and as framed prints as well!

039Here’s a very different take on books and vintage images…antique Paris postcards topping a distressed book bundle. I have even included the postcards for you to use in your projects!

    bk#5. DECOUPAGE
Baby Kitty is reminding me not to forget his favorite and perhaps the most versatile way to use vintage images…découpage! If it’s standing still, you can découpage it!

063One of my favorite découpage projects is this one…my vintage French script fruit! It gives new life to outdated faux fruit!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Découpage EggsAnd finally, these eggs are not just for Easter…my French découpage eggs were created using sheet music, vintage French dictionary pages and Paris-themed wrapping paper! Just imagine all the possibilities!

I hope my ideas have given you a little inspiration and shown you that adding that Country French look to your décor doesn't have to be expensive! And now…be sure to visit my fellow francophiles and their beautiful blogs to see their tips for adding that Country French feel!

Easy and Inexpensive...Paper Mache Bird's Nests

Yaay! Spring has finally sprung here in Georgia and soon the birds will begin building their nests! Not to be outdone, I have created a few little nests of my own to bring a little touch of spring indoors. Not only were they easy, but they were super inexpensive as well. And…you are not going to believe what they are made of!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Paper Mache Bird's Nest supplies Brown paper lunch bags and glue! Yep…you read that right!
    Here’s what you will need:
    • Lunch bags (approximately two per nest, depending on the size) that have been shredded or cut into thin strips. I shredded mine in the paper shredder.
    • Elmer’s Glue-All or similar glue that dries clear
    • Water
    • Small bowl as the nest form
    • Plastic wrap
    • Aluminum foil

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Paper Mache Bird's Nest tutorial And here’s what you will do:
    • Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap.
    • Turn the bowl upside down on aluminum foil.
    • Mix the glue with water (2 parts glue, 1 part water). I started out with half and half, but I found that was too watery.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Paper Mache Bird's Nest tutorial
    • Place the shredded lunch bags in the glue mixture until wet and then squeeze out the excess.
    • Press the paper to the bowl in small handfuls, forming it to the sides of the bowl as much as possible.
    • Pull away the excess paper at the bottom of the bowl, leaving some of the shreds to give a twiggy effect.
    • Allow to dry for 12 hours. Pull away the aluminum foil and, leaving the plastic wrap in place and keeping the bowl upside down, allow it to continue drying a few more hours until the outer edges seem dry. I actually placed mine upside down on top of a soda can for this part.
    • Pull away the plastic wrap and the bowl, being careful not to disturb the nest, and let it finish drying right side up.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Paper Mache Bird's Nest Now your nest is ready to fill! I added some leftover shreds as a little extra fluff in the bottom of the nest and then added the eggs.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Paper Mache Bird's Nest I really like the look of the shredded paper…almost like a real nest!

Baby Kitty Baby Kitty loves the nests, too, and has some ideas for ways that they can be used, including adding them to the place settings at your Easter dinner as take-away gifts or little decorations for your guests.

He suggests filling them with easy-to-make Pottery Barn inspired glitter eggs. Not only are they inexpensive to make, but I have a time-saving cheat for you, too! You’ll find the instructions here.

Now…I’m ready to see some real nests along with the official arrival of spring! How about you? Are you seeing any signs that spring has arrived?
