Pottery Barn Inspired No-Sew Valentine Countdown Calendar

Can you believe that Valentine’s Day is almost here? My little grands are so excited! I wanted to find a way to help them count down the days and work with numbers and dates at the same time…win win! They had really enjoyed the Advent calendar at Christmas time soooo

Valentine's Day Countdown Calendar…when I saw the Valentine Countdown Calendar at Pottery Barn Kids, I knew I had found the perfect solution! The one thing I opted to change was to omit the script at the top since I have three grandsons.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Pottery Barn Inspired Valentine Countdown Calendar Here’s what you will need:
  • 2/3 yard of red felt
  • 1/4 yard of white felt
  • 1/4 yard each of two other fabrics (I chose a stripe and a polka dot.)
  • Fabric glue
  • Red and white yarn for the tassel
  • Dowel rod and caps
  • White spray paint
  • Glue gun
  • Scissors

And here’s what you will do:
Cut out the red felt to create the banner. I used the dimensions in the graphic above. An extra 2 inches is allowed at the top to fold over to hold the dowel rod.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Valentine Countdown Calendar NumbersPrint the graphic above to use as a guide. My numbers were 2 inches tall. Cut out the numbers from felt, using either red or white, depending on the coordinating fabrics you have chosen. You can consult my photo to see how I chose to do mine.

Cut out 14 hearts from white felt, using the graphic above as a guide. You may have to resize it to fit. The white hearts were 4 1/2 inches tall. Cut more hearts in a slightly smaller size in the coordinating fabrics in whatever number you wish. You can use my photo as a guide if you wish. You will see that I left some of the white felt hearts plain.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Pottery Barn Inspired Valentine Countdown Calendar Create the hearts by layering the fabrics and numbers and adhering them with fabric glue. Allow them to dry.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Pottery Barn Inspired Valentine Countdown CalendarPress the top 2 inches of the banner toward the back to create what will become the pocket for the dowel rod.  Arrange the hearts on the banner in a pattern that pleases you and attach them to the banner, applying a bead of fabric glue on the outer edge and leaving the top portion open to create a pocket. Don’t worry if it’s a little messy since the glue dries clear. Allow to dry.

Spray paint the ends of the dowel and the caps white and allow them to dry.  Attach the caps to the dowels with hot glue. Apply fabric glue to the 2 inch fold on the inner edge,  place the dowel in the fold and then smooth the fold as close to the dowel as possible. Allow to dry. Tie a piece of yarn to both ends of the dowel to allow for easy hanging.

Create the tassel using the tutorial found here and then attach it to the bottom end of the banner with a small bead of hot glue.

And here’s the finished project! I love it!

I just hit the dollar store for little goodies to tuck in the pockets and I am all set! The three year old is already checking it out and enjoying counting! :-)

Wow - can you believe that January is almost over and that Valentine's Day is just around the corner???  Using printables makes special day decorating sooo easy...especially when it's a day like Valentine's Day where you may want to have just a little touch of something in the house.  I like to put together a simple vignette that includes a framed printable to honor the day.  I've created some free ones just for you!

Shelves...Country French Style

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shelves...Country French StyleI am excited to join our Country French Design group today for our monthly share…and this time the topic is shelves! For me, that means having a spot to display my favorite things. They are mes préférées…my favorites…as Country French design guru Charles Faudree called his collections. Now you may be thinking that my shelves are all packed with plates…but you may be surprised!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shelves...Country French StyleOf course, you will find my ever-growing collection of Quimper pottery displayed in my home. And I have to admit that I am rather informal when it comes to styling the breakfast room hutch where it is displayed. I love the casual look of stacks of vintage plates and bowls…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shelves...Country French Style…intermingled with plates on stands and wonderful old finds such as that little pitcher nestled in among the bowls.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shelves...Country French StyleAnd I don’t even mind if the pieces are broken and were lovingly mended by a previous owner. That is just a testament to me that he or she loved Quimper pottery as much as I do!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shelves...Country French StyleBut  you may be surprised to find that at the base of that same hutch, I have displayed my collection of clay cookers. And although mine are not French (they're actually German), they remind me of the clay fait-tout cooking pots that are the workhorse for many old French recipes.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shelves...Country French Style The duck is my favorite! I just love how the base of the pot has been made to resemble a basket!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shelves...Country French Style On the hutch in the dining room, you will find my blue and white collection. I know what you are thinking…they are not French at all, but are largely either English or Asian. I admit that you are right, however, I have to say that I took a hint from Charles Faudree in this department. He was also a lover of blue and white and felt that crossing borders serves to enrich the mix…and I happily agree!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shelves...Country French StyleI also love to sprinkle in a few pieces of vintage Red Cliff ironstone. The traditional grape pattern just looks French to me!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shelves...Country French StyleOccasionally, I will add some vintage silverplate. I love the way the patina of an old tray reflects the room!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT I'm in Love...with My Shabby Tool Box!And I have also been known to dress down my collection by adding in pieces such as this shabby toolbox.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shelves...Country French StyleI love the way it pulls together mismatched vintage plates and old lids and makes them make sense!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shelves...Country French Style But perhaps my favorite shelf is the little half wall by the entrance to my home. I like to have a little greeting there to welcome my guests. It’s my home all summed up in a tiny vignette…sunny Provençal colors with a touch of vintage collections lovingly displayed so that they can be enjoyed all year round!

Be sure to visit my fellow francophiles and their beautiful blogs to see what they have to say about styling shelves in Country French décor!
