Thinking About Thanksgiving...Tablescape Inspiration

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Thanksgiving Tablescape InspirationAre you like me and already thinking ahead about Thanksgiving? It’s my favorite holiday, with everyone gathered around the table, counting our blessings. We are a small family so I like to have the table set in a way that makes it even more special. I was looking through previous Thanksgiving tablescapes and I thought I’d share them with you, too!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Thanksgiving Tablescape...Cream with Natural Elements
This one is simple and rustic, with cream with natural elements accenting the table. That’s my grandmother’s dough bowl in the center and my mom’s Silver Flutes flatware from Towle…a mix of rustic and refined.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Thanksgiving Tablescape...Cream with Natural ElementsI also like to mix high end with thrift store finds, using my Irish lead crystal goblets with wine glasses from Goodwill. I layered a burlap runner (tutorial here) over a drop cloth tablecloth for lots of texture, as well as adding my Pottery Barn inspired Indian corn candles on either side. You will find the same plates almost every year…my go-to favorites…Felice from Chris Madden, a $10 thrift store bargain.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Thanksgiving Tablescape...Bittersweet, Pumpkins and Mercury Glass The following year, I used the same basics but added pumpkins, bittersweet and mercury glass to the tablescape. The acorn-patterned napkins (from the Williams Sonoma outlet) reflect the colors in the little dumpling squash at each place.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Thanksgiving Tablescape...Bittersweet, Pumpkins and Mercury GlassThe centerpiece is piled high with white pumpkins (created inexpensively by spray-painting Walmart faux pumpkins a soft cream color) with one raised on an overturned cup and saucer. Lots of natural gourds mixed with votive candles were added to the burlap runner.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Rustic Thanksgiving Tablescape This is one of my favorites, mixing traditional orange pumpkins and pewter. I kept the burlap runner and added twig place mats for even more texture. That’s my wedding flatware and goblets…Octette from Gorham.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Rustic Thanksgiving Tablescape For a rustic touch, I raised the center pumpkin on an overturned flower pot and oversized saucer, both painted cream as well. I added a pair of deer sheds and vintage brass candlesticks as a nod to a candle holder that I found on Pottery Barn’s website.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Tablescape And finally, here’s last year’s tablescape, starring mercury glass pumpkins and vintage wood, another copy-cat version of a tablescape that I admired on Pottery Barn’s site. This time, I used the burlap runner and left the rest of the table bare.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired TablescapeAt the center of it all is my Pottery Barn inspired monogrammed vintage wood serving board, made from an old cutting board for a mere $5.00 compared to their $60! You will find a detailed tutorial here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Farmhouse Christmas TablescapeI have a few ideas cooking in my brain for this year, using the galvanized tool box and chunky grapevine wreath chargers that I used last year in my farmhouse Christmas tablescape…so stay tuned for more!

Baby Kitty, however, says just cut all the chit-chat about tablescapes and get straight to the turkey!

How about you? Are you thinking about Thanksgiving, too?

Baskets...Country French Style

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Baskets...Country French StyleI am so excited because it’s time for the monthly share with my Country French design group…and this month the topic is baskets! I love baskets because they are so versatile and add so much texture to your décor! And…they are not only beautiful but utilitarian as well! Your baskets don’t have to come from the Paris flea markets to look frenchy either! Most of mine came from thrift stores or were great outlet store bargains.  It’s so easy to add a little frenchiness!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT DIY Grey Willow French Laundry BasketFor example, I added the look of grey willow to an ordinary basket plus threw in some frenchiness for good measure in my DIY grey willow laundry basket. Who says a laundry basket has to be ugly?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT DIY French Enamel Number Plaques And the basket that serves to hold my cookbooks got a little easy make-over with the addition of my DIY French enamel number plaques.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT DIY Vintage French Wine BottlesI love this basket…a great thrifting find…and use it to store my little wine bottle collection with DIY vintage French wine labels.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Basket Liners My super-easy no-sew basket liners are decorated with frenchy vintage flatware and serve up the silverware when guests are expected.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT How to Create a Cheese PlatterA basket-style tray is perfect for creating a cheese platter for your guests! I like to serve French cheeses and even have a set of Limoges cheese plates and handmade napkins with a French farmhouse theme.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Dining Outdoors...French StyleI shared this one with you for our post on dining outdoors…Country French style! I love the way this basket serves the fruit and bread for a French-style petit déjeuner!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Transitioning into Fall But the same basket is not only utilitarian but can do double duty to corral all the elements of a centerpiece, as in this early fall vignette! The rooster and the sunflowers just say Provence to me!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Christmas VignetteYou see it again in this Christmas vignette complete with a wonderfully textured sheep. He always reminds me of my time living in Lorraine, also the home of a young shepherdess who played an important role in French history…Joan of Arc.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Christmas CenterpieceBut baskets can also be made of other materials…such as this wonderful wire basket filled with little flower pots sporting holly and red candles…one of my favorite Christmas centerpieces!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Numbered Napkins But perhaps my favorite is this vintage French wire egg basket…a thrifting find from five or six years ago. It serves to hold my French farmhouse numbered napkins and a vintage Mason jar filled with flatware for my guests…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT DIY Vintage French Linens ...or my DIY vintage French monogrammed tea towels and more vintage silverplate flatware. It always adds a little French farmhouse feel to my table.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shabby Picnic Basket PlanterBut what I love most of all is to use baskets in a way that is completely unexpected, such as my shabby picnic basket planter! It’s the perfect contrast for my Lunéville Old Strasbourg china for a little breakfast-for-one on the patio!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Favorite New Find...My $3.63 Demijohn! OK…now Baby Kitty says I am really stretching it here, but, hey, it’s a basket, after all! I will leave you with one of my favorite thrifting finds ever…my $3.63 demijohn! Can there be a better way to add a little frenchiness for a very little bit of money?

And just in case you missed any of my posts on previous topics in our Country French Design series, here they are…
